Love is a verb. An action word. You can't just tell a person, you must show them.
Prime example:
Jesus: I love you.
Me: You what me?
Jesus: I care for you. (Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you)
Jesus: I provide for you. (my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory)
Jesus: I healed you. (by His striped we were healed)
Jesus: I protect you (the Lord is the strength of my life, whom shall I fear)
Jesus: I guide you (He is the Way)
Jesus: I pray for you (I pray not for the world but for them which thou has given me)
Jesus: I died for you (enough said)
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
